Summary:

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Review:

This was totally NOT my type of book but I liked it anyways. I never really go for the gothic, horror type books but this one intrigued me for some weird reason.

I found the plot pretty interesting and unique. The plot was actually kind of creepy and scared me most of the time.

The main character however seems a little naive and predictable. Like of course she would fall for one of the baddest boys on the freaking planet. (Until he isn’t….Don’t worry it’ll make sense when you read it) And she isn’t really a heroine though she does save herself and another at the end.

I found the love part of this book not very real and it seems that it happened way to fast. Almost as if he was manipulating her into thinking she loved him. It was so obvious that you can’t fall in love that fast.

Overall Review: I thought the plot was interesting, creepy and kept me on my toes. I did feel a variety of emotions while reading this book. However, I did not think that the characters were the best. Yes, I did care about the main character but I didn’t really care about anybody else. The love aspect wasn’t real and I felt should not have been rushed into as it had been.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Crowns
