Summary:
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…
Review:
The Lux series has quickly become one of my favorite series. I keep reaching for the next book and devouring it as if it was actually cake. [I wish!] The Lux series has all I want in a book: fantastic characters, science fiction/fantasy, and a swoony romance. This book just blew me away. The plot twists and sizzling chemistry once again sold me completely. If you haven’t tried this series, then what are you waiting for? You need to jump on this train, now! And if you aren’t jumping on the train because of me, then do it because of Daemon freaking Black.
This book also does not suffer from second book slump. It is just as good as the first and perhaps even a tad bit better. I mean, we got more Daemon and Katy.
COVER
This is one of the book series where I would so redo the covers. The covers kind of scare me and depict Katy as a girl who can’t survive on her own or can’t really fight back. Katy is tough. A lot tougher than she seems. She’s saved Daemon’s life on countless occasions and will probably do it more often. Plus, the torture she went through in this book, proves she’s tougher than she is depicted.
WORLD-BUILDING
This is set on Earth as was the last one but we do get a lot more background of the world in which Daemon and his sister and friends came from. I really enjoy learning about their world which they don’t completely remember but we still get important details about people.
Then there are the characters.
KATY
I feel like I love Katy even more after reading this book. Katy is such a down-to-earth character. Katy really grows in this book. She is such a kick-ass heroine, determined to fight her own battles and not let Daemon treat her like a damsel in distress because she’s NOT! She’s also still book obsessed and seeing her writing her blog is an occurance that isn’t just seen once. Katy does have flaws but so does everyone. She is the type of person you would want for your best friend because she’s so loyal and kind.
DAEMON
Daemon Black… I mean seriously, every girl needs a Daemon Black. He’s so annoyingly infuriating and arrogant but swoony and romantic at the same time. Daemon has also changed and grown a lot in this book. I don’t know how it’s possible but I liked him a lot more in this one. I actually felt like we got to see the real Daemon. The one buried beneath all those infuriating and snarky comments. The one who actually has a soul. Who cares and is actually capable of affection. But of course, Daemon wouldn’t be Daemon without his snarkiness and arrogance. And yes, he is so capable of being jealous.
I can’t wait to see more of Daemon and see where Jennifer L. Armentrout takes this.
BLAKE
Blake...Where do I start? At first, I thought he would be a complete other love interest. You know the one who actually sweeps the girl off her feet and the other love interest has to fight for her back. That wasn’t really the case. Katy wasn’t too infatuated with him. Sure, he was cute and all but Daemon knew something was up and even though she said she didn’t believe him, she trusted him.
Blake kind of creeps me out and I’m sure he’ll be back causing all sorts of trouble in the next book.
DEE
Dee wasn’t in this book as much. At least not as much as the role of Katy’s best friend. She had a relationship with another Luxen during this book so that naturally took up a lot of her time which I wasn’t extremely happy with.
We also got to see a lot more of her mom and her mom’s life in this book which was an interesting change.
PLOT
I can't believe on most reviews, I forget to talk about the plot. Well the plot was fantastic and unique. It was full of twists and turns that shocked and surprised me. I mean that one with Will…. And Blake. Phew! Never saw that one coming. This story was so well thought out and planned, down to the tinest detail.
ROMANCE
The romance was still developing in this book. The chemistry between Daemon and Katy is unmistakable. This series also just drips with sexual tension. Something different happens in this book though. Sure, they still argue twenty-four-seven but they are so obviously falling for each other. This book seriously brings out the feels, so get ready. Some of the moments are just so cute and hilarious or totally swoon-worthy.
WRITING
I really enjoy Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing. These books have amazing writing and I easily fly through these books.
Final Thoughts:
As I said before, I loved this book. I really like the characters, romance and plot. This book is amazing and the series is also amazing. I highly highly recommend it. I have also officially boarded the Daemon train.
Quotes from the Book:
“That's the funny thing about trying to escape. You never really can. Maybe temporarily, but not completely.”
“I understood books. I did not understand boys—especially alien boys.”
“Memories, even bittersweet ones, are better than nothing.”
