MINI REVIEWS: TAHEREH MAFI EDITION

Idea from here!

Mini reviews are going to work differently from my normal reviews. I follow a different format for my normal reviews which is a lot easier when I have a lot to say. Mini reviews are for books that I didn’t enjoy as much as I wanted to or I don’t have a ton of stuff to say. This way, it is a lot more pleasing for you all. I don’t have to rant about what an insufferable brat a character is or just write random stuff and you won’t actually read it because it is so boring.  This is going to be an ongoing thing on my blog.

This is the Tahereh Mafi Edition as I have two books that I want to review and I didn't want to write a full review for them.

Let's dive in.

#1: Destroy Me

Rating: 5 Crowns

Author: Tahereh Mafi
Genre: Young Adult/Fantasy
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: February 4, 2014
Pages:
Edition/Source: eArc from Netgalley + Read on Kindle

Summary:

Destroy Me tells the events between Shatter Me and Unravel Mefrom Warner’s point of view. Even though Juliette shot him in order to escape, Warner can’t stop thinking about her—and he’ll do anything to get her back. But when the Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment arrives, he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner cannot allow.
The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi is one of my favorite series. I love the whole concept and I love all the characters. I was so excited to read part of the story from Warner's point of view. Warner is a very interesting character and getting to learn more about him was a real treat.

Warner Compared to Adam: In this novella, you can clearly see that Warner never judged Juliette for her powers and how much she struggled with them.
Warner Respecting Juliette: Warner respects Juliette a lot and will always love and take care of her.
More Warner: I loved seeing more Warner and getting to view his personality and character more.
More of the Reestablishment: We didn't know a whole lot about the reestablishment during the first few books and I liked learning about Warner's job and what the reestablishment was like.

Warner's Sadness: Warner is a very broken character and we get to see a lot of that in this novella. I didn't like seeing him upset so that was definitely a con.

#2: Fracture Me

Rating: 4 Crowns
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Genre: Young Adult/Fantasy
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: February 4, 2014
Pages: 197
Edition/Source: Library

Summary:

Fracture Me is told from Adam’s perspective and bridges the gap between Unravel Me and Ignite Me. As the Omega Point rebels prepare to fight the Sector 45 soldiers, Adam's more focused on the safety of Juliette, Kenji, and his brother. The Reestablishment will do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam cares about.
This novella was all about Adam and I enjoyed it because I already knew the whole story. This was just from Adam's perspective instead of from Juliette's.

More James: James is so precious. I loved seeing his character more and I hope Tahereh Mafi adds him into the other books more. Also, his nickname for Adam is adorable. I just love this kid so much.
More Kenji: I love how we get to see how much he cares about Juliette and how he sees his strength.
Juliette from Another Perspective: Seeing Juliette from another perspective was really refreshing though Adam made her seem weaker than she actually is. It was also interesting to see how she repeats words in real life and not only in her journal and her head.

Adam Acting Like Juliette is a Burden: Adam is so annoying. He acts like Juliette is a burden when he is supposed to be a supportive boyfriend. He acts like she can't take care of herself and that she needs help all the time. I hated that! It feels like Adam is from Warner's perspective because Warner hates him and now it's making us hate him.

#3: Juliette's Journal

Rating: 4 Crowns

Author: Tahereh Mafi
Genre: Young Adult/Fantasy
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: February 4, 2014
Pages: 197
Edition/Source: Library
These were basically all of the entries that we have already read but it was nice to see all of them at once. Also, it helped me understand Juliette a lot more.
