Summary:

Dainy doesn't know that she is the lost Duchess of Jordinia, believed to have been assassinated fifteen years ago. Nor does she know that her uncle has implemented an illegal contest to seek her, offering her marriage hand as the reward! Though at odds, three clashing rivals - including a noble giant, a forest dweller and a thieving rake - voyage together by woodland, prairie and sea to recover the lost royal, notwithstanding the assassins and spies at their tail. Soon, young Dainy is swept into a comically complex romantic quadrangle as each suitor competes to capture her heart. Charmingly romantic and bursting with political intrigue, startling twists and vivid characters, readers of romance and fantasy alike will adore this original yet timeless tale of swashbuckling adventure and unlikely love.

Review:

I signed up for this blog tour, not knowing much about the actual book so I went into it somewhat blind. But, I ended up enjoying it which was a good thing. It is a Historical Fiction novel about a girl who doesn't know that she is the lost Duchess. Her uncle has proposed a contest and the prize is her hand in marriage. This was a really funny and good book.

COVER

The cover is gorgeous. I really like how there is a ship in the background along with the water and a women's image in the front.

WORLD-BUILDING

The world-building was done pretty well. I liked how it started in the past so as to give us more information before we start the actual story.

Then there are the characters.

DAINY

Dainy wasn't a normal fantasy/historical fiction heroine. She wasn't experienced with fighting and sword-play or any of that sort of thing. She was more of a gentle lady with manners. She could still hold her own and wasn't going to be treated like a possession. Dainy also just wants to be loved, like a real person and not thought of as something that somebody won.

JON

Jon is the dashing rogue who has many secrets of his own. He isn't really interested in love or marriage. Women are more thought of as playthings to him. But obviously, he stole my heart [not literally]. I really enjoyed him as a character, he was charming but still had a darker side to him.

MAC

Mac had visions of matrimony dancing in his head. Mac feels like he belongs with Dainy. He wants her to pick him. I liked Mac though not as much as Jon.

BOS

Bos wanted to retreive the princess because he had a sense of honor and duty towards his kingdom. He wasn't really interested in marrying her which could be seen from the early pages. I thought Bos was really kind and thoughtful and honorable.

FRIENDSHIP/FAMILY

There are a lot of scenes that show the importance of friendship and family. Dainy knows how important it is to make her aunts happy and knows that she should stick with her friends and family.

PLOT

To be honest, I thought that there would be more action in this book but I still enjoyed the plot. I liked how they stopped in different places and how everything developed throughout the plot.

ROMANCE

The romance between Jon and Dainy was pretty believable, though they seemed to be attracted to each other a little early. I still totally shipped them and thought that it was pretty cute. But, seriously, who could resist Jon's charms?

WRITING

The writing was pretty eloquent and flowed smoothly. It was a rather fast read for me.

Final Thoughts:

I thought that this was a really beautiful book and I highly recommend it as a quick read. It would probably get you out of a reading slump as well. :)
