Summary:
They thought their nightmare was over, but Thea, Coen, and Nova’s rescue was only the beginning. After being imprisoned on a ship they thought was their ticket to safety, it’s clear that the threat they left behind isn’t as distant as they’d hoped—and this time the entire galaxy is at risk.
Now that threat is about to be unleashed as an act of political warfare. To prevent an interstellar catastrophe, the survivors must harness the evil they faced on the planet Achlys and learn to wield the only weapon they have left: themselves.
The first installment in Erin Bowman’s duology earned a starred review from Publishers Weekly, who called the plot “intricate and action-packed,” and fans of Jonathan Maberry, Rick Yancey, and Madeline Roux will relish in Bowman’s tense, high-stakes conclusion to the events of Contagion.

Review:
Immunity is the sequel to Contagion by Erin Bowman which is a sci-fi horror young adult novel and chances are I've raved about the first book on this blog before. Sci-fi/horror as a crossover genre is something that I haven't read much of but it's a genre that I love.
Contagion ended with Thea and Cohen thinking they were rescued but their rescue ship turns out to be a prison. We quickly learn that the two managed to survive the infection that wiped out the entire Black Quarry and that they are essentially superhuman. This causes them to be examined and essentially tortured in order to test their abilities.
Immunity differs from Contagion in many ways. This book was a lot more character driven than Contagion and we got to learn more about the beloved characters. I loved Nova and Cohen as I did in the first book and I liked seeing them grow as their own people while simultaneously growing their relationship.
Despite this book focusing on the characters, Erin Bowman still managed to have a fast plot and kept the twists and threats coming. Also the representation in this book is very well done. Since the events of Contagion were horrific, the characters have PTSD which Erin Bowman shows a lot in this book.
Contagion and Immunity are very different books. The first book, Contagion, is a blend of horror/sci-fi while Immunity is a lot more focused on the sci-fi aspect. While both books are about survival, the enemy in Immunity is of the human variety. However, the entire duology is very intricately plotted and well done. I loved the sequel and recommend it to all fans of science fiction.
